I can’t quite bring myself to part with £££ for Fat Duck dinner just yet, but would like to have a Heston dining experience.
Dinner by Heston is the next best thing for me, and so a booking was made at this beautiful 2 Michelin star restaurant. In fact, a few bookings were made prior to this, but each time something would come up and we had to cancel our reservations.
It’s obviously not anywhere comparable to the Fat Duck experience, but it was quite an experience for us nevertheless. This was one of the most impressive (and expensive) meals we’ve had in London!
The menu is inspired by historical British recipes, but cooked with the latest food tools & techniques. Everything has amazing flavour, texture, and presented beautifully.
Starters
Meat Fruit (c.1500)
Spiced plum, chicken liver parfait & grilled bread
Broth of Lamb (c.1730)
Slow cooked hen’s egg, celery, radish, turnip & sweetbreads
Mains
Powdered Duck Breast (c.1670)
with smoked confit fennel, smoked beetroot & umbles
Spiced Pigeon (c.1780)
with ale & artichokes
Left : Warm bread
Right : Triple cooked chips
Dessert
Tipsy Cake (c.1810)
with spit roast pineapple
Beekeeper’s Chocolate (c.1660)
Toasted barley mousse, malt & honey cake with chocolate & ale ice cream
It was definitely an experience… one we would remember for a long long time, but not necessarily repeat due to the price tag
…except for maybe on a really really really bad week, I may fork out on the tipsy cake…. just the tipsy cake…. maybe….
